PTA Governance & Resources

Saratoga Elementary PTA is a membership organization led by volunteers and governed by our bylaws and California State PTA requirements.

This page explains how PTA decisions are made and provides information about Association Meetings, nonprofit documentation, and commonly used forms and procedures.

The Association

The Association includes all SES PTA members and is the decision-making body of the PTA.

At Association Meetings, members receive updates, discuss PTA business, and vote on matters that require membership approval, including the annual budget, calendar, programs, fundraisers, and other actions recommended by the Executive Board.

The Executive Board

The Executive Board includes SES PTA’s elected and appointed officers, committee leadership, and school representatives as defined in our bylaws.

Board members are volunteers who manage the ongoing work of PTA between Association Meetings. They develop plans, oversee programs and activities, review finances, and carry out decisions approved by the Association.

Volunteers

Much of PTA’s work is also made possible by volunteers who serve on committees, lead programs and events, help in classrooms, and contribute in many other ways throughout the year.

You do not need to serve on the Executive Board to be involved in PTA.

PTA is more than the Board. The Board helps manage the organization, the Association gives every PTA member a voice in its decisions, and volunteers help make the work happen.

Association Meetings

Association Meetings are open to all SES PTA members. Members can hear updates, ask questions, participate in discussions, and vote on PTA business.

Have something you’d like included on the agenda?
Our bylaws require written notice to the PTA President at least 14 days before the meeting to have an item of business or announcement placed on the agenda.

Nonprofit & Tax-Exempt Documentation

Saratoga Elementary PTA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization operating as a subordinate organization under California State PTA's group exemption.

SES PTA is fiscally responsible for its own organization. Like other California PTA units, we maintain our own federal and state identification and charitable registration and file the required federal, state, and charitable organization reports for our PTA.

California State PTA provides documentation confirming the tax-exempt status of its subordinate organizations.
