Volunteer Opportunities

Parent volunteers help support classrooms, student programs, family events, and school-wide experiences throughout the year.

Some opportunities are ongoing, while others are seasonal or event-based. Time commitments vary depending on the role, teacher, program, or event.

Current Volunteer Needs

Picture Day — September 25

Help Picture Day run smoothly by assisting with students and classes as they rotate through photos. We are looking for 2–3 parent volunteers from approximately 8:30 AM–12:00 PM.

Running Club

Running Club begins September 15, and parent volunteers help make it possible! Sign up for available Running Club volunteer slots throughout the fall season.

PTA Leadership & Support

Want to get more involved behind the scenes? We currently have a few opportunities to help support PTA operations:

• Assistant Treasurer — Supports the Treasurer and helps with PTA financial processes and recordkeeping.
• Membership Toolkit Admin — Helps maintain our PTA website and online tools, including forms, volunteer sign-ups, and other updates.
• Hospitality — Helps coordinate food, refreshments, and other hospitality needs for staff appreciation, PTA meetings, and special school events throughout the year.

Classroom Volunteer Opportunities

There are lots of ways to help in the classroom. Some parents take on a key role for the year, while others help with activities when their schedule allows.

Classroom Key Roles

These parents work together to support the teacher and help make classroom activities happen throughout the year. The Room Parent is the main connection between the teacher and families, working alongside the Party, Art, and Yearbook Coordinators to keep everyone connected and involved.

Room Parent / Classroom Liaison

Serves as the main connection between the teacher and classroom families. Helps with classroom communication, organizes parent volunteers when needed, coordinates teacher gifts, and helps make sure classroom needs are covered throughout the year.

Classroom Party Organizer

Helps plan classroom celebrations and special activities, as well as parent support for events such as Back to School Night and Open House. Works with the Room Parent to share information and find volunteers when needed.

Art Program Coordinator

Helps make art activities happen in the classroom. Depending on the teacher’s needs, this may mean leading an art lesson with provided materials and instructions, helping the teacher during the activity, or finding another parent who can help.

Yearbook Classroom Coordinator

Helps capture the class throughout the school year by gathering photos and sharing them with the yearbook team. Works with the Room Parent to reach out to families and make sure special classroom moments are included.

Flexible Classroom Volunteer Opportunities

Want to help without taking on a year-long role? Opportunities may include:

• Project Cornerstone
• Library support
• Makerspace
• Science Lab
• Garden activities
• Classroom celebrations
• Field trips and special activities

Before You Volunteer

Some volunteer roles that involve working directly with students require clearance through the Saratoga Union School District.

Volunteer Clearance Requirements

SUSD currently requires:

• Completion of the Volunteer Information Packet
• TB risk assessment completed by a healthcare provider
• Fingerprinting/background check
• Annual mandated reporter and student safety training for volunteers working directly with students

SES PTA typically helps organize on-campus fingerprinting opportunities at the beginning of the school year to help simplify the process for volunteers.
